Staying a bit longer in Copenhagen?

What to Do

We hope you take the opportunity to spend some time in Copenhagen either before or after our wedding weekend. We have compiled some helpful and local recommendations and we hope you have an awesome time in Copenhagen:

Rundetårn.jpg

Rundetårn
(The Round Tower)

Rundetårn (the Round Tower) the view is really nice and the story is cool: there are no stairs to the top because the King who built the tower always wanted to get to the top in a horse carriage. You can even see where the carriage dug into the tiles when you're walking up the tower.

Canal Tours

Take a canal boat tour if the weather isn't too bad - they leave from Nyhavn (New Harbour) and Christiansborg and have various routes around Copehagen Harbour or through the canals. Either way - great way to see the city. If you have time while in Nyhavn, there are some good eateries here that serve rye bread with various Danish toppings - like the pickeld herring and schnaps (Smørrebrød). Really yummy and so Danish it hurts!

Tivoli Gardens

If Tivoli (the 200 year old amusement park in the City centre that was frequented by HC Andersen) is open (usually closed in Winter), we highly recommend checking it out. No need to try the rides but the atmosphere is so great and really cosy.

Royal Guard Change

Also if you're a royalist or just like the charm, follow the guards change from Rosenborg Castle right by Nørreport Station and walk along with them and the marching band to Amalienborg Castle (where the royal family lives!) - it's about 15 minutes walk and a unique experience. Happens everyday at 11.30 and ends at Amalienborg for 12. Nearby the Marble Church or Frederiks Church as it's also called, is a real looker.

Fun fact - Patrick used to be one of the royal guards and in case you have any questions he´ll be happy to not stop talking about it.

meat-packing.jpg

Meat Packing District

For evenings and dinner, the Meat Packing District in Vesterbro (Western part of city and right by the Central Station) is awesome. Mother does pizzas to drool over, Bollywood does epic Indian curries and Warpigs does great American barbeque whilst serving craft Mikkeler beer! Noho Bar is also worth visiting for a dance and drink. Be aware that this is close to the red light district - although it is perfectly safe.

Nørrebro

In Nørrebro there are a lot of small craft beer places worth checking out. We can highly recommend any of the kebab places on Nørrebrogade and turn down side streets like Stefansgade and Ravnsborggade for cool bars like Stefanshus, Brus, The Barking Dog and Mikkeler. Stellar restaurants in Nørrebro include Scarpetta, Oysters & Grill, and Bæst.

Take a trip to Helsingør

Outside of Copenhagen: The Louisana museum in Helsingør is great for art fanatics. Kronborg Castle is also quite a sight for those that remember Hamlet - and views of Sweden included!

Additonal Recommendations

Bars: Ruby's, Brønnum, Hotel Sanders, Nebbiolo Wine Bar, The Globe

Eats: Madklubben (for Danish food), Llama (SouthAmerican), Cofoco (for French and Italian). Frank or Polly (bistro style).

Shopping: Strøget is good, Købmagergade particularly so for Nordic high street. There´s always something you find at Magasin at Kongens Nytorv, a favourite for home goods/decorations is Notre Dame.

And for official tourist information - this is the place to look:
