Our Love Story

We met during the summer of 2018 in Copenhagen, on my (Natalie here) second day in Copenhagen, first time ever in Denmark. Clearly no time was lost. I had just arrived for summer school before starting at CBS and did not know a single soul in town.

Lucky me, the summer school came with a social program, kindly organized by volunteers, of which Patrick was one. He himself had just graduated and was gearing up for a summer of fun before starting work full time. Voluteering for the social program meant spending time with friends, meeting lovely people - and drinking for free.

After meeting at the welcome dinner in a classy spot in Copenhagen called Drunken Flamingo, we ended up spending all summer getting to know each other and havent´stopped since. In summer 2020 we moved in together - just in time for lockdown - and at Chrismas 2022 Patrick proposed during a nighttime walk in the snow at home in Austria.

Getting There

By Car

From Copenhange it´s approximatel a 1.5 hours drive to Nyborg, Holckenhavn Castle lies just outside city bounds. Please note that there is a bridge toll for the bridge between Sealand and Fyn.

By Train

We recommend taking the InterCity train towards Odense from Copenhagen Central Station and getting off at Nyborg Station. Train tickets are available through DSB (either by app or website).

From Nyborg train station you can order a local cab to drive you your hotel, see the number below.

By Flight

If you are flying in it is best to fly to Copenhagen and continue by car or by train. You can reach the main train station easily by Metro directly from the airport.

 Taxi Nyborg

Taxi Syd - +45 70 10 33 20

Wedding Traditions

Danish weddings are full of traditions, some of which  may be unusual to non-Danes, so here´s a quick overview.

Danes love their speeches. You may have noticed that the dinner is planned to last for quite some time. This is mainly because guests are invited to make speeches, toasts or other entertainments during courses.

While speeches and little games are typical at most weddings, Danes take it to the next level; it is not unusual to have over 10 speeches / games during dinner. These are all kindly coordinated by a Toastmaster, in our case our dear friend Lisa-Marie. If you would like to contribute, please see further down below.

There are also several Danish wedding traditions associated with kissing! For example:

  • If at any point during dinner the bride leaves the room, female guests take this as a chance to place a kiss on the cheek of the groom. Likewise whenever the groom leaves, male guest will come to kiss the bride.

  • If all guests stamp their feet on the floor, the bride and groom must dive under the table for a kiss.

  • If all of the guests tap their knives on their glasses, the bride and groom must balance on their chairs and kiss.

Dresscode

It will be a beautiful day at a beautiful location full of beautiful peope - let´s all look our best!

Our dress code is Semi Formal which means we hope to see you in nice suits, long or mid length dresses in friendly colours. It is a good occasion to dress up a bit :)

We cross our fingers for sunny weather so both the ceremony and reception can take place outside around the castle grounds. This means lots of grass - just an FYI to consider for your choice of shoe. If you do want to wear a nice stilleto heel, let us know and we can provide a little cover for the heel.

Should you still have any doubts please feel free to reach out.

Wedding Speeches

In case you would like to contribute with a speech or toast, please reach out to our Toastmaster, our dear friend Lisa-Marie, she will  coordinate all activities also with the kitchen. We ask that no songs are prepared and there will be no IT equipment available either.

Lisa-Marie can be contacted at

Lisa-marie.meyer5@web.de. Please let her know latest by  September 1st, 2024.

Gifts

We don't expect any gifts for the wedding; we know many of you need to travel far and we are just happy that all of you are able to attend.

If you still would to give us a gift we would appriciate any contribution to our "honeymoon fund".
